Hollywood
cottage, or to use its proper Welsh name Llwyncelyn ('Klooinkelin'), is
a secluded 18th century cottage in the Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales.
It sits next to the river in the upper reaches of the steep-sided Twrch
valley, nestled amongst woodland, fields and wetlands.
The cottage has an open plan living/dining area with exposed beams,
wooden parquet floor, comfy sofas, wood-burning stove and inglenook
fireplace. There is also a colour TV with Satellite (no Sky card), DVD
player, DVDs, stereo and extensive range of literature on the local
history, flora and fauna.
The beamed kitchen has a quarry-tile floor and fitted pine cupboards. It
is equipped with electric oven, fridge with freezer box, toaster,
kettle, microwave and full cutlery and crockery sets. The bath/shower
room is off the hall next to the kitchen.
A stone spiral staircase leads off the living room to the single, open
plan bedroom upstairs. This has fitted cupboards, double bed, more comfy
chairs, A-framed ceiling and colour TV. This is definitely my favourite
room in the cottage. I’ve really tried to make the most of the light up
here with a couple of skylights and by keeping all of the colours very
pale. This really emphasises the textures and character in the beams and
makes it a warm, airy bed/sitting room to relax in even in the depths of
winter.
Well that’s a quick introduction to our little hide-away in the hills. I
know you’ll get as much pleasure from staying there as we have over the
years and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
